Frequently asked questions
How do I book a newborn session?
Its best to book in your newborn session while you are pregnant as soon as possible to guarantee to get a space. I would book you in a session about 7-14 days after your due date and then if you are early or late we will reschedule. I only book a certain amount of newborns a month to allow space for rescheduling, so this will not be a problem. I would ask you to fill out my booking form and pay the session fee and you will also receive my client prep guide to help you prepare for the day.
When should I book my Maternity session in?
Its best to book you Maternity session when you are about 32-34 weeks, this is when the belly is usually nice and round. Everyone is different though, i would and not leave it too late so you are not uncomfortable.
When and where do my Newborn sessions take place and how long do they last?
My Newborn sessions take place at my Studio in Hackney Wick, Monday-Fridays at 11am. My studio is all set-up for your session where i have lots of various props to create a variety of beautiful images for you. The session last between 3-4 hours, it’s all dependent on the individual baby.
What do I need to bring with me to the session?
You don’t need to bring anything specific with you to your session, but if you wish to bring some toys or outfits to add some personal touches to the images feel free to but i mostly work with my props and accessories. Every parent is different in the kind of images they would like so i tailor each session to this.
Can we include sibling and parent photos?
Yes i will always include parent and sibling photos if this is what you want. not every mum feels up to it but it you can its always nice to try and include a few.
Should I feed my baby before coming?
If possible its best to feed your your little one first thing when you get to my studio, as then it is easier and smoother to transition into the sleepy photos. Most of the time baby’s will need feeding again and cuddles from mummy and daddy, so don’t worry or feel like you are taking awhile feeding.
When can I expect to see my edited photos and how do I see them?
2 weeks after your session you will be able to view your photos on my client gallery. You will receive a password to view them and once you have viewed your images and decided on the package you would like to purchase, you can submit me your favourites folder to complete your order, its all very easy!
The work that goes into producing your beautiful images
As well as all the work that goes into organising your newborn session, i always try and plan ahead in knowing what colours or styles the parents would like and think about what props and poses would work well for each shoot. Not every baby is the same and some babies may not like a certain position so every session is baby led to ensure the comfort of your little one. After your session the work doesn’t stop there for me and i will start editing your final images. A lot of hours go into editing newborn photos, The main thing is editing babies skin nice and smooth and flake free but making sure they still look natural, this can take a lot of skill and time for each individual image.
Here’s an example below, the first image is unedited and the second is edited, so don’t worry if your little one has scratches or their skin is still flakey i can work my magic in the editing process.
I’m professionally trained in newborn photography and safety to ensure your little one is safe and happy at all times. Being a Newborn photographer takes a lot of patients and skill and you must be trained to capture those more difficult poses. Heres a video of me editing the froggy pose below. This pose is 2 photographs edited together, one photo holding your babies hands and another holding your babies head
Once you have chosen the photography package you would like, I will post it out to you signed for delivery to ensure you receive your images securely and on time.
