I had the pleasure of photographing Oscar as an older newborn at about 8 weeks as he was just adorable! Because of the lockdown there have been a lot of older newborn photoshoots but this doesn’t mean that you still can’t get some really cute photos! For Oscars newborn photoshoot he’s parents had chosen brown, grey and whites. Little Oscar was awake for most of the session but there was a small window when he fell asleep and we managed to get some cute sleepy newborn photos as well! I love awake photos at the start of a newborn session, you get to see the personality in those adorable eyes.
Photographing older newborns
As you may have read newborn photography should usually be photographed under 2 weeks of age as this is when they tend to be more sleepy and usually most newborn poses can be achieved. For an older newborn session I tend to use more props like bowls and not wrap them up tight as they usually don’t like this. I will follow how the baby is and be led by them as you want the newborn to be comfortable. I have photographed so many older newborns and it its still so so worth it! It’s just another stage of your cute little bubbas development. Some older newborns will still be sleepy through out a newborn session and some won’t be.
Parent photos
It’s great to include newborn photos with parents during every session, I think these images are so important. In the early days of having a newborn it’s hard to remember to take photos together as a family. Booking in a newborn photoshoot is the perfect opportunity to create some beautiful family photos as well. Here’s a few of my favourite newborn photos from Oscars session, I hope you like them 😊
